In these tight economic times, a lot of us are trying to save our pennies every way possible. What are your opinions about the best *value* in engine oil?
If you *had* to change your oil today and you *had* to buy the cheapest oil possible, what, in good conscience, would you put in your Harley?
Mobil 1 15w50 would rank at or near the top for value and has been tested as safe and effective by several MC mags. It's about $25/5-qt. bottle at Wal-Mart.
Amsoil, say you save 30 dollars your engine cost 6 grand on sale....
Here's the thing: My *personal* belief--and hey, I could be wrong--is that I may get a few thousand fewer miles from my engine by running less-than-the-very-best-oil-money-can-buy, but I believe that as long as I run a *decent* oil that I keep topped off and I that I change per H-D specs, my engine will last just fine. I'm okay with getting 100,000 miles running cheap oil rather than getting 110,000 running the best.
Rotella synthetic,Wally World.$19gallon,used world wide in the roughest and toughest conditions.
Gotta agree with this guy.....any of the HDEO oils Rotella, Delo or Delvac. 15w40. All meet the HD specs and have very tough additive packages designed for the pounding inside a diesel engine. Plus the price is usually the lowest. However the Rotella dino is better for a HD than the 5w40 syntietic and cheaper too. It is also JASO rated for your wet clutch. I think it is chepar than $19/gal.
That said...I am so cheap I always look for the bargain closeouts and coupons for $10 off or product rebates. AAP closed out all redline products and sold off the 20w50 GroupV oil for $4/qt. I got a 3 year supply. They also sold off all the old Havoline 20w50 for $1/qt I missed out on that one.
