Your buddy needs to fix his website. Google says it is known to be distributing malware.

Read the associated article. It said something about the oil pressure to the engine using that setup. Kind of nixed it for me.

Since the oil filter on my evo is on the return circuit, couldn't I just put the fitting below in the home made scavenger? Would old oil still circulate through?

I'm confused as to why you need to use a puck? On a TC motor if you pull the return line and run the engine until you see clean oil what the problem? That return oil is upstream of the filter isn't it? Now if you have a cooler that would be a different story

All I know is that after I do an oil change on my Sportster, then start it up and run to normal temps. I then shut it off and recheck the oil lever. It is so clean that I have to touch the dip stick to a clean dry paper towel to actually see where the oil lever is on the stick. It is that clear still. Don't think there is that much left after draining the old oil and changing the filter. Even a week later it is still so clear I can't see it on the dip stick.

Looking at the oiling diagram in my 2006 XL883's Service Manual, it seems like the oil goes

tank->feed pump->filter->engine->sump->scavenger->tank.

So if I drain the tank, change the filter, and fill the tank with fresh oil, the crud should come out of the scavenger while the good stuff goes through the filter to the engine to keep it from being starved. Also the new filter will filter the little bit of crud that was in the lines between the tank and the filter, if I'm reading this right. In other words, I don't see why a puck would be used in place of the new filter, unless there's enough oil in the tank->pump->filter to worry about getting on the filter, but not enough to worry about sending through the engine unfiltered?

The article http://www.aimag.com/wordpress/2010/...oil-change-ii/ doesn't seem to clarify logic of the puck either.

This looks like a cool forum.
