I don't think all o-rings are of the same quality and recommended uses. O-rings in general are used for all kinds of applications. I would be careful using just any o-ring for sealing hot oil with all of the petroleum based additives in it. You can buy neoprene, nylon, rubber and o-rings made of other products that have specific uses.
