Everytime and sometimes it makes a mess but thats what brake clean is for.

I suppose it wouldn't hurt....but I don't really see a need..
When you drain the oil it drains from the oil tank, the crankcase is still full of oil (dirty)..and then that dirty oil gets pumped back into your tank.

I fill it best I can and then hope everything doesn't make a mess, normally if doesn't.

Never have put oil in filter on bike, mower, car or truck. Never experienced problems. Important thing to me is change oil and filter on time.

I have on filters that mount vertically (truck) but not on the bike.

Referring to my post above. I always run engine to operating temp to suspend any solids, therefore the oil is hot and all engine components are lubricated when the engine oil is drained.
