Default Using a WIX filter?

I want to change the oil on my 06 heritage tomorrow, I like wix filters for cars so thought maybe I would try one on the bike. Do many people use these? Does anybody know what number to use? I use black filters instead of chrome. Does wix make a motorcycle specific filter or is it just an automotive filter that fits? Thanks guys.

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp

Look it up here

Part Number: 51348
UPC Number: 765809513488
Principal Application: Various Chrysler/Jeep (82-10), Various GM, Saturn (85-07), Lexus (90-10), Saab (67-09), Suzuki (86-02), Toyota (88-10), Ford (03-10), Mazda, Mercury (05-10), Yugo (86-89), Various Lawn&Garden, Farm Equip.
All Applications
Style: Spin-On Lube Filter
Service: Lube
Type: Full Flow
Media: Paper
Height: 3.404
Outer Diameter Top: 2.921
Outer Diameter Bottom: Closed
Thread Size: 3/4-16
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Beta Ratio: 2/20=21/37
Burst Pressure-PSI: 275
Max Flow Rate: 7-9 GPM
Nominal Micron Rating: 21

Understand this filter will fit but it has a micron rating of 21 versus the 5 micron rating of the Harley filter. The filtration media is paper versus the Harley filter which is synthetic media. So it will allow larger particles to pass through.

Ok thanks for the info, I thought they might actually be a better filter than the hd one but if not I will prob just buy the hd, even though I hate buying over priced stuff from my dealer...

I too like wix but its hard to beat a 5 micron synthetic HD filter for 8.50. If wix made a comprable filter I dont think it would be under 10 bucks.

How much are you guys paying for filters at canadian dealers? I will check tomorrow but I honestly think they are something crazy like $21.99 plus tax! Maybe I am being cheap but I think that is way too much for an oil filter!

Buy the wix, peel of the number label and feel comfortable using it. Unlike motor oil there are no set standards for measuring oil filter performance. 5 micron verses 20 microns means virtually nothing unless you take all the different flow characteristics of every different filter into account. Use the Wix and be happy.

WIX PART # 57148 is the Harley spec filter. Its 5 micron. Go to the WIX site and you will have to put that number in there look up to get the specs. Most auto parts stores will have to order it but they will stock it for you if you ask. Been using it for some time now.

Well I just called my local parts supplier which I have an account through so I get dealer pricing on parts and they told me $18.95 for the wix. Plus they would have to order them in.
