Any 20w-50 will work even after break in. The v-twin oils cost more because oil companies know the consumer will buy it at an inflated price thinking they are doing good by their engine. And v-twin oils carry the JASO spec for wet clutches which you need in your primary/tranny.
The post above about non-energy conserving oil is wrong. You can use an energy conserving oil in your engine but not primary. So I guess something more can be said when the poster is mistaken.
If your bike had a shared sump for all it's systems then a JASO spec oil would be required, but it's not.
In your primary/tranny rotella diesel oil carries the JASO symbol and it's cheap and shear resistant. For your engine, again you don't need synthetic but it does last longer. It's not more slippery or super slick. It just had more additives.
Use whatever you like. Your engine won't know the difference. Good rule of thumb is 5000 miles on synth and 3000 on conventional. Sure the oil may last longer than those intervals however without doing a few used oil analysis' to establish a trend those intervals are safe.
Don't overthink this,it's just oil. I had an 83 Honda silvering with 100000 miles and never ran anything other than the cheapest 10w-40 I could find at the time. Bike still ran great when I gave it to my cousin who promptly dumped it and bent the neck, totaling it.
So really it doesn't matter what you use. Bike won't know the difference
You just couldn't help yourself, could you? I have read many discussions on the pro's/cons of the non energy conserving oil in the crankcase is ok or not ok. It muddy's the water. I avoid it only for the reason it has additives that have no benifits to HD and these additives displace the amount of base oil avail and I dont want it where it could be used in the wrong "hole" by mistake.

I use Lucas products in all my vehicles. I have even worked with Forrest and his engineering staff to come up with blends for HD trans, engine and primaries. Sure any oil will work. But 3 - 4 mpg increase is worth it. Plus, I am going to the Super Bowl. So, why run anything else.
