Here is what I heard through a mechanic friend of mine that works on boats. I don't remember much about he said EXACTLY, I only vaguely remember what he said...
So what I'm saying is that this is purely here-say, I have no idea it's validity, nor do I know how accurate it is...were just two guys chatting about oil

Anyway, the viscosity of various oils was tested using a metal ball in a bowl type device, and the ball was some how spun. Pressure via a plate was placed on the ball (as it was spinning), causing friction, and eventually the oil would break down and the ball would quit spinning. The only thing I remember about his results were that the Militec never failed.
Bottom line was that it's to be used as you described, a few drops in your oil.
