My favorite ride is down to Kingman,AZ for breakfast at Cracker Barrel or Whataburger. Mother Road HD dealer in Kinman,AZ. Then down I-40 for a mile or two then down Route 66. Oatman,AZ is down the way (just google Oatman AZ). From there head to Bullhead City,AZ and Laughlin,NV back thru Searchlight,NV to Vegas. about 300 miles round trip. It gets HOT, but its a dry heat in summer. Red Rock is cooler, but its a few hours if your not a hiker (I am not). Bonnie Springs, Spring Mountain Ranch, Mountain Springs Saloon are near Red Rock so making a day of it all could be easy. Mtn springs Saloon is about 20 degrees cooler than Vegas. Death Valley is not to far.
Hey guys... I'm actually planning to go to Vegas the first weekend in May. I mapped out what atex said above and it looks like a good solid day of riding. Do you guys have any idea what the weather is like on this trip at that time? Also anything worth noting when passing through these areas?
I see on the map that NW of Vegas has more mountains and this route above is mostly dessert... Does anyone have a nice ride NW or is this one the best way to go?
Also what are your recommendations for renting a bike in Vegas?
NW of Vegas is pretty much just Nellis Air Force bombing and gunnery range. Don't recomend riding around there. There are a few small "towns", but as far as I know nothing till you get to Carson City, Tahoe area. Seriously we are in the middle of NOWHERE. In May we are usually hitting 90's regularly.

We have a mountain. It ain't much compared to Mt. Hood or the Rockies or the Tetons, or the Andes...well any way...we have a little hill called Mt. Charleston that's NW of town. That may be what you're looking at. It's not a long ride to get to, and you can basically go up, over and down and that's about it. I'm afraid we're in a desert here so that's what most of the riding is. That route you have down to Kingman is one I've done dozens of times. It's a good trip. Some of the road immediately south of the dam is beautiful country in its own way...nice challenging piece of road on 66 going into Oatman...nice piece (for about 3-4 miles) coming out of Laughlin as well, then it's pretty much point it North and go back.
As far as rentals, I've had friends that had good results from Eagle Rider and really haven't heard anything negative about the stealership.
