Need to head out to Laugnlin area for a day and I'm gonna make a ride of it. Coming home on Sunday and planning to hit this road I've been wanting to ride.
CA-243 from Banning to Mt Center. Road conditions should be clear and weather should be fine.
Question, any nice place to stop for a bite or drink along the way? From there I'll head over ortega (74) and prolly stop at Hell's Kitchen before the last leg home.
I've ridden the 243 a few times. It's a great road, but the only good spot to stop is Idyllwild and it's kinda too yuppie for me. Always lots of families out 'for a day in the snow' this time of year. I never took the 74, always go down to the 371 to the 79.
Might want to check road conditions, they use a lot of rocks on the road up there when it snows. Seems like those rocks always end up in your lane right where you don't want them to be....
Thanks..
I came over ortega this morning and up thru Amboy to Laughlin. Kind of cool the whole way. I picked up some hand warmers to drop in the gloves tomorrow if needed.
Thanks for the tip about rocks in the road. I'll be taking it nice and easy since I'm unfamiliar with the area.
Liked the area fine. I wanted to check out the road so I can suggest to my buds for a future ride.
Didn't stop, other than to take that pic and to peel off jacket as the temps warmed up.
Going up the east side was still pretty cool, some dark gravel/debris/snow melter?? on the roads here and there. A few wet spots, but for the most part roads were clear.
Side roads and parking lots still had some snow.
Coming down the west side was warm and clear dry roads.
It was a great ride. Thanks for your input earlier.
