If you end up bringing the bike out, here's some info for registration: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9.htm

I'd bring it out and then decide on options. There's tons of great riding in the area. There's a good chance you'll want to ride as soon as you arrive, hence already having a bike will make that much easier to do.

Another thing to think of is the price of buying a bike. Not sure how much you can get for yours in NY, but I have noticed the Bay Area was more expensive when buying a used bike. I found that Southern California tends to be a pretty good amount less (and Arizona, Nevada, Oregon as well). I am not sure if the bikes in the Bay Area are selling what people are asking, but when I was looking I could find similar bikes in Southern California for 1000-3000 less than what people were asking here, even including travel costs/time I could have saved some money going that route.

We just moved to San Ramon (about 40 mi No.)

What do you do for work? Maybe I can help.

I do know San Jose like the back of my hand,
so let me know if you need directions, short cuts,
where the best & worst restauraunts, bars, etc are.
