Default Front sprocket question

Alright. I'll admit I'm new to the sprocket and chain game
Is it normal to have some surface rust on the front sprocket shaft teeth?

Only if you don't ride the bike much or lubricate the chain properly.

what do you need to remove to get to the front sprocket ? just a faceplate or is there more ?

Just the cover, there are 3 screws to remove
