Default stock internal cable bars to S&S

have '50 pan with aftermarket h'bars and S&S. Want to put stock bars on with internal cables. Have a "push" spiral for distributor and a "pull" spiral for throttle. The original Linkert ran a solid inner cable(push) wire. Am running a braided, more flexible inner throttle cable wire now to stock S&S linkage hook up:
any advice on this combination: inner cable/hook up? will a solid wire work?

you will need another left side throttle spiral because you need to pull it

safty wire .025 thousands and solder it to the braded cable wire and feed it through the outer housing Note -- we bend the end around so its smooth as you feed it other wise it catches - we use two guys garage green grease it is sticky and messy but works we use a needle grease end to feed it in and the original solid cable to help get it all the way - they make MID USA MC parts a kit for a broken cable it works great and it has both ends you need - the one ferral has a screw in the end so you can put it into the S&S and get the right cable length and a EXTRA LONG BRADED CABLE is a must have buy 2 of them never know when you might need it

K...the timer cable is on the left side of your bike and the throttle is on the right. The E-carb was set up to run a 2-wire system. Why can't you just run a single wire so that when you twist the throttle counter-closckwise (like you would on your Linkert) your throttle responds and you get to get up and go. The cable will need to be longer than stock since it is running through your bars, The only other thing to work out is where to place the wire stop. Don't think the Linkert set up will function correctly.

A single wire is operating fine now. After switching to stock, internal cable bars, one end of the inner cable will need to attach to the "throttle grip spiral plunger" via the little allen screw. The S&S end will need to wrap around the S&S linkage and have a barrel connector end, and be flexible enough to allow smooth return to idle when you let off. The original set up used a solid inner cable to make connections at both ends. I think the "throttle cable repair kit" will fit the bill.

tryed that the stiff cable pushing against the S&S spring would not do it bent all over the place - and he wants to use a braded cable as it is the only way we found

Ah...thanks for the clarification. Figures that what I was was thinking would be too simple to work.

To the OP, when you get it together, how about a couple of pics showing how you did it. Would be a great tech tip for others who want to do the same.

All parts came in: outer cables & cable repair kit (inner braided cable). Braided cable slipped right into outer cable with no effort. Put a little solder on grip end where it is held in "Throttle grip spiral plunger" and used two allen set screws in plunger, one on each side to put cable in vise-like tension. Redid old stock horn button and headlight dimmer switch and fed all wires and cables through bars. Hope to install today and connect other ends of cables. Hoping i still have timer/distributor cable clamp, taken off in 1971 teardown.

using a piece of thin tin and a drill bit you can fab a clip around the drill bit in the size you need to hold the cable - while its still long drill the hole for the bolt - then trim for the look clear nail polish is a good choice for original end look

if the machine has been in a warm / Dry place then your fine - if not it will need to be stripped to the screws as in time it will destroy its self from the corrosion internally - it is cheaper now then after to do that -

The braided internal wire would not return on it's own, even with the strong S&S spring. I suppose there was too much friction with the outer cable. Installed the solid inner wire just to see, no dice- too stiff. Ordered some vinyl coated 1/16" cable with an OD of 3/32". Hoping it will slide in the outer cable.
