It looks like a Swap Meet Special, where no parts had every been together before. Very cool.

the 63 to 65 heads with a 8 fin cam cover feeding them is a .little different then a hi out put oil pump

not picking on it you asked for comments - the coil and oil filter location would not happen in the shop even if that is what the customer wanted - a black speedo cable would be a better look and oil lines need some help in the visual -- but if its you it don't matter carry on

not the choice we would make for an electric start but again its choices - like real brakes - its an after market frame my guess as 4 speed and softail suspension

its a real go to for a rider everyday machine - it looks as if that is what's happening with it - the pipes tell a good runner story BTW

the rest is in the program

Default RSES feedback.

I found the RSES to be one of the most functional things I’ve done to my bike. I use the All ***** sportster electric starter to turn the engine over. I have never had a case where I had to crank the motor more than one revolution.

the unit is on an STD Transmission case. That took some fitting as the top of the transmission where the shifting drum sits is 1/2” wider than the standard HD transmission case. I’m very satisfied with the RSES unit.

Good morning sir,

I thank you for the feedback on the bike. I’d like to respond to some of the points you pointed out.

The heads are STD. They were on the bike when I bought from a veteran friends dad who could no longer ride. I am a functional rider and love the originality that works and making changes as needed due to failure and problems. That’s why I changed the coil and oil filter location. Here’s my logic.

I hit an animal in 2016 that took the springer out And the bike went down on one aide then flopped to the other side. That became a winter rebuild project. I didn’t care for the hard tail frame. This was my daily riding bike at that time. The frame is a Kraft Tech soft tail frame with a 34 deg rake on the neck.

The engine and transmission decks were perfectly aligned so no shimming was needed.

heat being a problem for these old engines (not everyone agrees with that), so I decided to put the oil filter out in the air stream more and not sit next to the rear head pipe, pre cooking up the oil in the filter. It also has a Lockhart oil cooler.

I had always had troubles with hot coils becoming unpredictable and failing. So I used 1 1/4” frame clamps to mount the coil out in the air stream also. No more failed coils.

Something interesting happened when I added to curved 6 gallon fuel tank. The airflow coming over the front fender is pulled across the top end and directed in a fashion that aids in cooling also. I also think it looks better.

There isn’t a speedo cable at all. When I had the bike apart to rebuild it, I wanted to use the transmission driven gear setup, turns out there is no gear for the speedo drive in the transmission. I couldn’t figure out how to make the front wheel driven speedo that was on the wide glide front end when i bought the bike, work. So no speedometer. I use the tach.

Respectfully,

Trig

on the road race bikes we had built 10 years ago we added a trigger speedo - a magnet on the front wheel and a speedo the size of the side of a cigarette pack digital display lighted for night time - worked in the rain as well no miles but so you how fast your going

dyna coil is not cheap for just that reason not being affected by heat or vibes - both 3.0 ohms and the point 5.0 ohms we also use the 6 volt 1.5 ohm unit with no issues

lucas oil additive one 1/2 of a quart per oil change reduces oil over all temps in an air cooled bike by 30 degrees - i like 180 better then 210 same bike with and with out lucas

i do like the build its very user friendly BTW
