i have seen people pay more and get less of a real bike then that one - some of it is blended not much - BUT that becomes the fun of bringing it to an antique swap and finding the few things that could make it a total complete - its all part of the collectible stewardship in becoming the next guy

20 is the magic number for 65s - but find out who did the motor its missing its original oil pump - and what else was done to the engine / trans it said restoration and wiring nothing else

Money seems right for a Button Pan, follow John's comments. Good looking bike for sure.

Nice example for a 65 FLH. He is asking close to top shelf money & he'd probably get it out here if he is willing to wait long enough. There was one out here that sat at 25K for almost 6 months and finally sold (don't know the final price tho).

What is great is that he is upfront about the bike being not a 100 point bike. That seems to be a missing trait in some I have seen.

As far as what could be made more correct...

Peaked upper windshield
Rocker covers should be aluminum anodized
Kicker arm should be straight (no bend)
Oil pump is shovel
Timer base needs replating (cad finish)
Rear brake linkage is repop
Starter relay is repop
Cycle Electric voltage regulator (which means there is nothing under the cover on the one attached to the side of the battery)
Chrome intake manifold
Solenoid cover should be grey (not black)
Wrong crossover pipe (correct one came with a tab to attach to the outer primary cover)
Missing one-year only crossover heat shield
Oil filler cap screw is later
Rear shocks are Shovel
Shifter cover is early Pan (not used in '65)

Why I would want to inspect the bike if I were going to make an offer/purchase

Need to determine if mufflers are OEM
Need to determine if saddlebags are OEM for 65
Need to look at turn signal lamp covers and taillamp covers to determine if they are OEM (the spot lamp housings are correct and he has a pic)
Need to take a look at the frame to make sure it is a '65 frame
Need to see the receipts for the engine & tranny work
Need to isnpect VIN and belly numbers

Overall the bike presents very well and if properly assembled it will be a great rider.

Thanks you guys. Some great insight to be sure.
Now I'll need to have a chat with my CFO and see what her thoughts are. I've bought a couple bikes in the past without consulting her and neither went well.
Wish me luck.

I tell my CFO that the bikes are “investments “ as they all have appreciated in value. Not sure she’s buying it though.

I thought about that but in the time I have left, the appreciation would be minimal.
