Default backfiring

I have a 62 and had a baffle in my drag piper and bought new drag pipes and now do not have a baffle in them. The bike is now running differently. She pops a lot as I as de accelerate. Due to the now lack of back pressure not having baffles, could that be the problem?

Yes that is what is going on

you can put a lolly pop in the pair of pipes - thats a bolt welded to a washer - do a search for pictures and adjustments

Thanks, I'll look into it but are you thinking that it is happening because I lessened the back pressure?

Yes, lack of back pressure is causing the popping. Lollipop as described will increase the back pressure. You can also use slide in baffles, J&P sells them.

I am seeing that most people are installing their lollypops about 16" up the pipe? I would think that that makes it a lot harder to install than close to the end so what is the reasoning for that?

A special kind of stupid exist on the web—we always installed them at the end and buy turning the amount of draft like a door part open you get good sound and no popping

That makes more sense because I don't know how the heck you can reach 16" inside a small pipe to install the sucker. I just figured there had to be a special reason for that exact measurement.

I will build my own lollypops and from what I have read about them, they all say to use a 3/4" washer and my questions is, is the washer 3/4" in diameter or is it a washer that will fit on a 3/4" bolt?

Start with a 3/4" diameter washer, you can turn it slightly too, you can try bigger, smaller, experiment a bit.
