Bought a empty battery box that can be used to fit a more modern battery.. Interestingly it looks like a battery cases without any guts.. Have to cut out the cell separators. Anyone ever do this to fit a more modern battery?
Careful lithium battery go on fire if the charging system has to many volts and amps
generator machines 13.7 the most and 5 amps or the battery explodes - how i know this it happened twice
That was kinda what I was hoping.. Just kidding.. It's not the 5 amp but overvoltage (or under) that kill them.. Could go with a newer solid state regulator but will probably go with a standard battery. I was thinking about using a standard series AGM like in the later FXDs and softails but they really wont fit in the battery case..
Damn that is close to the stock HD acid battery. Keep hoping that someone will come out with a replica case that takes an upgraded high amp battery inside it. Have something like that for my 49 EL that I converted to a 12-volt system.
I gutted an old 6 volt battery that fits inside the horseshoe oil tank on my Panhead. Two modern AGM batteries fit inside. Looks stock from the outside and no battery acid.
I run the Scorpion battery that John recommends on my 1970 FLH, no acid, starts the bike just fine and same size as stock, cable locations are perfect. I got almost four years out of the last one, just replaced in kind a couple of months ago. I accept four years of life for $150 dollars, and it won't light the bike on fire.
I have a fake battery box on my 45 with a lithium inside. Been like that for about 4 years as well. Bike is converted to 12v with electronic voltage regulator, no issues with fires. Battery works well, more than enough for a kick only. Battery Box guy who has an ad in the AMCA magazine is where I got it. Pretty sure I bought it from him in person at Oley years back. Not sure if he is making something for the Electra Glides, I would track him down and ask Good luck.
