My Tender is hooked up to my truck which I store for winter. It won't go to maintain. Hooked up my charger for a couple hours to boost the charge with the same results. Could start truck to charge battery but with clean oil for storage Id rather not. Is it hard on the Tender to stay on charge
1. How old is the battery?
2. Have you checked the resting voltage?
3. Does the truck have a security system & lots of electronics?
4. Have you had the battery load tested.
1. An older battery may not be able to be brought up to a full charge if the plates or glass mat inside are getting to the end of their useful life.
2. Battery should have a resting voltage of 12.5 - 12.9 depending on age and type of battery.
3. Security and some electrical systems could provide a draw that your tender sees and not let it cycle to float.
4. Load test will show how good the battery is.
5. a 1 amp tender will take a while to bring up a larger truck battery, I just put my 1.5amp tender on my F250 that has a large capicity battery and it took 1 1/2 days to bring it up to float after the truck was sitting for 10 days.
6. They make 5 amp tenders that are better for automotive/truck batteries.

Information overload The battery is 2 years old. Last year the Tender kept up fine. This year I let the truck sit a couple weeks before hooking the tender up. Will letting the Tender run on charge shorten the Tenders life.. Would it be ok to run the truck for 15 min to charge. Don't want to dirty up the oil for storage
Seriously. clean the posts and terminals first. There may be corrosion on the inside of the terminals and posts that you can't see just by looking at it them and that may be keeping the system from charging the battery. "Always apply the cheapest solution to a problem first." Albert Einstein, 1934.
