52 pan with linkert problems
I know this sort of thing has been covered a lot but can’t find anything that’s helped me directly.
52 pan running a linkert and a morris m74 mag. I’ve owned it a few months it’s always been a little tricky to start cold but once hot one kick and warm a few kicks usually will do it. Recently it’s become very tough to start cold and hot. I checked the plugs they looked fine but I replaced them anyway and gapped at .020 I have sprayed the intake manifold when it’s running and it doesn’t appear to have any leaks. Where I am getting confused is when I pull a plug after trying to start it it doesn’t seem very wet however when I prime it with choke on It appears to be getting plenty of fuel into the carb it will spit some out as well then when I pull a plug and check it for spark which it always has and put the plug back it in it will start up. I’m scratching my head any help would be awesome.
throttle shaft is loose in the bushings - we change and fit all 3 pieces together to no movement and free to turn - its a finesse
they also have a thin. O ring for the Venturi most are loose in the bore - what happens is the air is not being metered the o ring fixes that ( starting sip )
buy 2 o rings and use very slippery to install from the back to the front making sure the o ring stayes to the back of the cut out if not pull it out and do it again sometimes the o ring. Gets damaged reason for 2 - the nozzle is also a thing to get back in just be easy with all of it using an o ring
for many years we did one at a time and reamed the new one just till the shaft fit then the other then matched the pair is easier
BUT if you dont do the o ring your there already - the over all performance is still being affected < amazing and it installs in the back - throttle blade side
we see from time to time a small o ring instead of the load top spring under the cable lever < earlier fix we would put just a small amount load on the small o ring between the shaft opening and the lever - if not the throttle bore becomes dug out by the blade rubbing on the carb body - new spring or o ring no other invent fix
FWIW - I've had good luck with getting Linkert parts from a guy in Wyoming. Not sure of your location, but I have always received the correct parts. He has a lot of information on his web site that may be helpful.
