Default 1959 tank paint pattern

Hey guys! I’ve not been in this forum area before, seeing as I have a street Glide and a Fatboy, but I’ve got a favor to ask. What I’m about to say is probably sacrilege, and I’ll understand if I’m drummed out of here. I love the white painted pattern on the 1959 Duo Glide gas tank. I’d love to paint it on my Fatboy tank. I was wondering if anyone has a source for a stencil for it? I know, I know, but it’s NOT a ‘59 Duo Glide but I love the older bike paint schemes. I’m no youngster, just had my 70th birthday. I don’t think I’m a candidate for a real panhead (financially or physically), but they just have the HARLEY look! So, can anyone help me find some kind of stencil for the white panel? Or at least measurements? Thanks guys, it would be much appreciated if

you could accommodate me.

Can`t help you, but there is nothing wrong ( in my book) with adopting a retro paint scheme.

Good luck

I saw this in Sturgis last year, clearly trying to emulate the 1970 paint scheme, I liked it. Since your bike is not a 1959, a stencil will not help as the size and shape of the tank is different. As a tribute, I would just get as many pictures as I could from the internet and bring it to an experienced painter. It will never be exact, but a good man can make it look correct. And HD makes the badges and stick on back plates so you can tell people it is OEM, good luck.

Your bike paint it anyway you wish. A good painter would have no problem matching the paint and pattern . The badge most like has a reproduction source.

As per the above posts, it's your ride and paint it as you wish.

Harley's doing retro paint jobs on their tribute bikes, why not you?

Nothing wrong with early paint styles or late tin . It’s yours and do with it as you like . I did this one on my latest shovel .

That looks great! I love the older paint schemes. Not trying to fool anyone, just maybe have people scratch their heads a bit, lol. I hear you on the shape and size tho, if I did find a stencil it would have to be scaled and tweaked. I have a bunch of pictures of the scheme I want. I’m thinking you’re right about a skilled painter being able to do it. I’m still trying to sell my Fatboy wheels so I can get a true dual exhaust, but I’m thinking 3 steps ahead, lol. I usually take a long time to make a decision but usually it’s the right one after over thinking it to death! Thanks for the suggestions and support.

Exactly! I fell in love with the Highway King paint right away. Then I started thinking, I’d rather have a metal flake red and I could get a police road king……….lol. So many ideas and so little money!

Thanks guys for the support and advice. I’m a sucker for nostalgia. My dad had a panhead and I owe all of my Harley and motorcycle fondness to him. I’ll attach a picture of him with my uncle and grandpa. He rode until he was 81. Miss him dearly.
