i lost my freakin mind and my self control on my last rebuild - it would be easier to hog out a new '64 out of a block of aluminum than to get mine back to original - it will never be seen in any resto museum, thats fer sure.

For sure but it would not be half the fun

Into year 8 of a 49 pan rebuild/reassembly/as close to stock as I can get it. Been frustrating process but with a bit of luck I will have the money for painting the sheetmetal by the end of summer. After that it is just some smallet parts that hopefully will not break the bank.

Right now I am putting the original Linkert M74 that was on it when I got it. I do have a real choke rod I need to put on it.

'Been thinking about getting back into the Pan world. There are a couple of decent and not too expensive examples floating around my area. But I just keep trying to remember How hard was it to keep the beast running. Seemed like I always was fiddling with something, but I never did get stranded. But back then, I didn't have much to compare it to. I was just happy to have a scoot that belched and dripped down the highway at 55mph. Nowadays I'm just spoiled with Evo. Not complaining, but damn, Pans are still just the nuts and still almost affordable. Soon I'm guessing they'll be where Knucks are today.

Have an OEM one for the Linkert on my 49, but using a cut up piece of coathanger wire for the Linkert on my 65 (and yours looks like the one on my 65!) but it works just fine.

Here's a pic of a damn close to original '65 that I've been going back and forth with the owner. NOw stands at about $17k. My dream bikes are a '47 knuck, the 65 pan and of course a '99 evo. The last years of each are by my reckoning the best of the beasts. Ohhh decisions... Ohhh the lack of funds.... Kill me please.

I made a nice reliable 1960 Duo-Glide out of a 2008 Street Bob if anyone is interested. It even sounds old with those mufflers.

Holy crap! That is well done. When you feel up to it, I bet there is more than me that would love to hear the run down of how you did it. The seat, is it sprung? It bloody looks like a pogo from that angle, but that can't be.
Wow.
