Thanks for the info on the disc brake Bud. Sounds like a plan. I got the **** and the knurled part off. The rod inside, which was broke, tapped out fine. There is still a round piece on top. Does that stay put? Kim
kim top n bottom of tank theres a round (of course) pice that is part of the tank there should of bin gaskets too top n bottom original were cork but didn't last don't know what there using now, youll need a new kit try paucho or v-twin maybe ebay, haven't done vintage stuff in a long time if you can find vintage nos stuff is expensive n used stuff is wore out after all these years. there use to be avintage guy in los Alamitos ca. but cant remember his name but he was expensive then if still there prob outrageous now. theres more people out there too but cant tell ya who try n find a manual on line real helpful to see breakdown pics there out there I found one for my 69 road runner brand new now I see them on cd's bud
well i am not sure why you removed this fuel petcock and now think gas i not going to splash out ( its an open hole in the top of the tank )
they make all the correct parts to repair and fix any problem you might have with the pan petcock and even a tool to re align it if needed - just my take but i dont get it -- jz
The fuel shutoff piece inside the tank was busted. An aftermarket shutoff came with the bike so thought I would replace it. Got the knurled piece and the **** off but what is shown in the previous pic. is what was under those parts. It doesn't seem to have a way to come off. Not sure it needs to. Don't have a schematic for it either.
hi kim! I looked at the pic, the black part should come off, the part below it painted part below it is part of the tank, try to find a kit with directions so you can see how it goes together, the black piece fit under the cap there should be a short sleve inside the black piece spray some wd40 on bottom of black piece an a slight squirt to the hole sleve aera not in the tank let it sit for a bit take a pair of pliers twist the black part back n forth it should come off then that's all then youll need new parts for reinstall ment bud
the most important piece is the male threads that stick up that it all bolts on too
the hat you are trying to remove loosens counterclockwise and as was said you will need to massage it back and forth as it might be painted in place
get a book - and read what has to happen or bring the tank to an indy old timer as it is a thing to get it correct / sure you could like some get lucky and installl it and all is fine BUT i dont live under that bridge -- jz
Hey thanks Bud and johnjzjz. I hope to give it a try today. Bud, regarding disc brake, I called Performance Machine. They no longer make the system for old pans. Bummer. You think any other co.s out there might? Performance looked like a good co.
kris! I dontknow of anyone else that did that, the only other thing you could do would be to would be to lace new hubs n spokes or complete new wheels im out of suggestions on the wheels other than that, too bad perry wouldn't have or make you a set special later bud
