You stated that a mag was your next add on. I put a Fairbanks-morris mag on my ol Pan because I was still running an old 6 volt-3 brush generator, not real reliable. The mag solved my ignition issues, ie"insufficient spark" Any way looks like you got a 12 volt set up and a newer ignition set up an she starts up real easy. Mags look cool but can be a pain in the ***. Expensive too!! Just my 2cents. You still have one very nice ride!! Killer
Thanks for the props guys...it's been a learning experience to say the least and without the help I've gotten from you guys who've rode and worked on these bikes, it would have taken a lot longer and cost a lot more money to get it done. It's kind of sad how few people there are our there that actually know how to work on these bikes. I am lucky to have the forums and a awesome machine shop specializing in old HD's close to home to help..

Thanks for the info Killerman. You're right the bike is converted to 12v...it's got one of those generic 12v coils, a taiwan teddy auto advance timer, and a Cycle Electric gen/low volt reg. I am still surprised it starts as easily as it does every time I kick it over.
There's just something about magnetos that I just can't get over. I like taking the battery out of the equation...but like you've said, I've been reading that it's really hard to set them up, that they have to be right on the money to have consistent easy starting.
I'm just gonna take my time and try to find a good used Mag for a reasonable price...I will only buy a Morris, so I know I will probably be searching for a long long time.
