there are many formulations so pick well. it will hold up well and i think more so than paint since they are heat set epoxy or poly. i powder coat some of our steel guitar frames and they hold up. the only think to consider is that gasoline and oil can change it over time with repeated exposure. be especially careful when clear coating over the top of a color as the clears are more prone to change.
now if you want bling and powder, just cross-hatch the base to suite and use translucent powder, will sparkle like diamonds.

powder is like paint, depends upon many things. what hurts a lot is how many mils the paint or powder is. i will give the powder a slight thumbs up and it is easier to fix since powder can be re-flowed. the best paint for being tough is imron aircraft paint with hardener mixed in. it flows well and if you get a run, it can be wiped out with a rag and sprayed over and usually flows out smooth. i did one jeep and one motorcycle with it and never an issue and the jeep was used by my son who wasn't particularly easy going with it.
depending on what it is, consider anodizing, i did a set of sliders decades ago and still are good, also many colors available today, but it will scratch to base metal.
