Hard saddlebag prep …
I’m prepping a pair of saddlebags. I’ve worked the deep scratches smooth with 800 grit wet… very smooth. I have sanded through the paint/primer to the bare plastic in spots.
1- should I use an adhesion enhancer prior to primer? Just on the spots that are down to the plastic, or over the entire surface?
2- I have these sanded very smooth (800wet) do I go back and rough them up prior to primer? How rough 800,600,400 ?

1. Depends on your answer to #2 IMO.
if you’re going to leave it sanded at 800, spray the adhesion promoter. And spray everything that is getting painted. If you want to sand anything, hit it all with 400, clean and paint.
I’ve paint matched a few fairings, prep sanded with 320 then primed and painted without issue. No adhesion promoter needed.

Does it matter that on a couple spots I’ve sanded through the original paint and primer, exposing the raw molded plastic?
Some folks recommend that I should spray a “sealer” before primer or as a primer… I’m not even sure what sealer they are referring to!
I’m inclined to go back over everything with 320, then prime, paint and clear. You think I’ll be good going this route?
