Here's a hot tip: Cover literally everything around and near the buff zone. Once that compound splatters it get's into places that seem impossible to get it out of. 1 minute of buffing can get you 30 minutes of cleanup. Ask me how I know.

if it did not go past the base to the primer, no biggie. deep scuffs are a pain to get out, the best option is to use wet/dry sand paper to bring the surface to a dull haze and then re-apply a clear coat.
