Default Custom paint cost?

I found a local painter with a nice book of experience. He quoted $2,100 to paint fenders, bags, tank and battery box on switchback. I'm going for the real flames look. I was hoping to keep it closer to a grand. Am I unrealistic or is the quote high?

I think that's a reasonable price myself. If he's using decent materials he will use approx. $600 worth give or take. It takes time to airbrush real flames, it's not going to be a simple solid color paint job. I'm a painter by trade and if he's anything like me he's going to spend a little extra time making sure your parts look perfect. It's not like a car or truck where you can have little imperfections here and there and not notice it.

Painters are artist; some are better and more expensive than others. If you have ever painted a bike you will know how much work it is, especially when it is done right and when you take the time to put some thought into it.

Look at my thread a couple down. "Before and after paint pics"
The one with the pink flames.
That was $1600. Tank, fenders, side panels.

Thanks. The bike looks awesome. I gotta give them a call. My bike is in need of some flames...

A real flame paint job by a good painter is typically going to run around $1500. And, that's just for a tank and fender set. Throw in bags and a battery box and that's what pushes it up around the $2000 mark. For all you're having done, the price sounds about right.

Good thread. Always good to be able to put things into perspective and see what things are going for. I'll be doing real flames at some point but I have to collect some new body parts first.

that's a fair price as i have a paint shop and most people don't realize the work that goes into painting motorcycle parts, it's not like painting a car but people try to compare the two.

Thoughs prices seem really good to me, I was quoted 3500$ from two different painters to repain my blue bike black with some goasted skulls.
