Candy Orange
I had made some paint samples and was holding them up against his bike. It was then that we noticed the samples a little darker against some of his parts and lighter against other parts of his bike.
Then we started looking very close at his factory paint. the saddlebags lids were a tiny bit lighter than the saddlebags, the front fender was lighter than the lids. Not big differences, but the rear fender was way lighter than the rest of the bike.
You can have the same exact formula but its all how its sprayed. With candy and pearl colors, if the painter moves slower, more color will go on the bike and the color will be darker. If the painting overlap is shorter the color will be darker. its all how the paint is applied.
From looking at my customer's bike, HD can't even keep their colors consistent. Nothing matched and it was brand new factory paint. And the customer did not even notice until we has that sample out and started comparing it to all the parts.
Usually the paint you buy from HD is a pretty good match. But spray out a sample test piece and make sure you have the right amount of coats applied for your color if you are doing the painting yourself. If you are having a shop do it, have them spray out a sample to show you to make sure the color match is correct.
Matching HD candy and pearl colors is a total pain. I spend more time making sure the color match is correct than actually painting the color.
