Default Some rattle can painting questions...

I picked up some paint for my fairing. One can of Birch White, one can of Vivid Black, one can of primer, one can of 2K Clear.

I am doing a two-tone paint scheme; white/black.

1. The guy told me I need to spray the clear within 24 hours of spraying the color - is this true?

2. After painting the white, do I wet sand, and then tape it off and paint the black? Or, do I tape it off and paint the black, then wet sand before I shoot the clear?

3. Air temperature - this is pretty important when spraying, correct? Above 70 degrees?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I have everything primed and ready to go.

How much time do I have between the color (base) coat and the clear?

I think the best option for self-painting is this Plasticoat stuff that is on the market. Plenty of car folks painting their cars in it... all kind of colors including metal flakes, candies, flourescents (neons), etc, and you get tired of the paint job you can peel it off by hand and do another.

Good for when the police put out an all points bulletin, "Be on the lookout for a blue cruiser style motorcycle...." You can change you bike color in 15 minutes by simply peeling it off!

I have seen some nice custom paint jobs with this stuff using stencils, etc. you can also paint on top of it with airbrush acrylics for all the fancy stuff folks like... flame jobs, etc. There is a clear coat too... all of it will peel off when you want to peel it.

You can be riding a new paint job weekly if you like...

You really have to go by the directions for the particular paint. It should give you time between coats, etc. It does vary. I just used some 3 stage Color-Rite paint to do some misc pieces and they say don't sand the color coats, you'll have a mess. Their clear cures the color coats. Bottom line, read the can, go to their web site for tips, or call customer support. If you play by their rules it can turn out nice. Oh, and my personal tip, mentioned in forums a million times....don't skimp on the prep. If you rush through that you will regret it every time.
