Default Primary cover getting excessively hot

What would cause the primary to get excessively hot ?? Hot enough to cause the inner seal by transmission to leak

how hot is hot?? did you ir the case to see??
for grins and giggles: low oil or wrong oil or worn out oil, friction from primary chain and tensioner, or issues with clutch slip for a couple of ideas.

You're not giving us much to go on so far! There is not much that can cause excess heat in the primary IMHO, most of that comes from the engine itself. On an older bike like yours any of the seals can simply leak due to old age. If you've replaced it recently there may be damage on the shaft which has in turn damaged the new seal, or the seal may have been damaged when installing it. How have you determined that it is getting very hot?

I don't think you have a heat problem. They all get hot. I got off mine in shorts last summer and touched the derby cover with my calf. Had a perfect impression of part of the derby cover bolt holes and all branded onto my calf. Looked pretty cool for about 10 days.

You don`t have a heat problem, you have a leak, it happens.

If you need advice on fixing the leak, ask away.

Just another guy with an excessively hot Derby/Primary Cover... REALLY HOT !!! Burning my leg through Jeans HOT... 2010 FLHX 96in It has some motor work, Hot Cams, Tuner, Vance n Hines Pro Pipe, Got Luv Jugs and twin fan oil cooler... I'm the 2nd owner all engine work and dyno tuning done at dealership on delivery to first owner who says it always ran that way... TOO HOT (temp wise) for me... Bike runs GREAT 2010, 96 in , good pipe and plug color, new clutches and metals, no slip, primary specific oil and 50 full synth Lucas in the engine... Had it about 8 years now, usually ride solo but had a date on the back seat this past weekend and my left leg when down is touching the primary (I'm shorter) Scorching Hot ! Date was hot too Does anyone make a heat shield to mount to the Derby Cover ? Please thereis no issue with how the bike itself is running... I have a self built Shovelhead, an 03 Fatboy 88, and this 2010FLHX 96in so i know about bikes and yes I know it shouldn't get that hot... Doesn't really bother me until the warmer weather and when I can't keep my leg clear...
