Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
Just got my fxwg back together after to long apart but now when I try to shift from 2nd to 3rd it like a brick wll it will not pull into 3rd have taken tranny back out reinstalled it readjusted clutch. when I had tranny out it shifted fine through all four gears on the bench just seem to have a problem when all connected on the bike. don't know what else to try any suggestion will be welcomed. No fourth gear either 2nd seems to be top.
I would try this...
Jack rear of bike up so the wheel can be rotated
Put is first gear..see if rear wheel will rotate. You should feel it if it is in gear.
Try the rest of the gears. If you have all 4 gears this way, look at clutch release.
With the outer primary cover off, battery dissconnected, you should be able to spin the clutch hub when the hand lever is pulled in. If it does not spin, there is a release problem.
If you do not have all 4 gears when rotating the wheel, check the shifter linkage for binding or rubbing somewhere.
Did you make sure the shifter fork roller fingers were in place when you installed the lid?
Thank you for your help went out and loosened the clutch adjustment through the derby cover and appeared to get all the gears back if I turn rear wheel. In the process of draining the primary now so I can take the cover off and see if I see anything wrong any suggestions on what I might need to be looking for. Also noticed that my rear belt was tighter than it should have been could this be adding to my problems. Thanks again HDFXWG85
