Default Softail clutch cable adjuster in wrong place

Hello,

I recently had to replace my clutch cable as the stud broker which holds it to the lever (previous owner put on risers but was to stingy to get a matching cable, so this was bound to happen...)
In any case, when ordering it, I specified my bike (2012 FXS Blackline) and my wish to have it 4 inches longer than stock. The bike was in the shop for some other work and they also installed the cable. When I cleaned the bike the other day, I noticed that the adjuster is kind of short of where it should, i.e. not sitting in the clamp attached to the frame to hold it (see attached pic).

I went back to the place where I got the cable and asked them about it. Their only response is that they made the cable as per my provided specs and pretty much "tough luck, your fault".

At the risk of overlooking something completely obvious: The adjuster should be in the right place no matter what additional length I specify, right? It would only depend on the model of the bike. The additional length is actually measured as after the adjuster? So even if I gave them the wrong length, it should matter for the adjuster to sit in the right place.

The overall length is perfectly fine, but I am suspecting that I was sent the wrong "base model" with the adjuster a few inches closer to the clutch. Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks already, best, niv

p.s. I did follow the cable all the way to the clutch and it looks properly laid out.

I think you are making a big deal out of nothing...

You bought an aftermarket cable, we have no idea of manufacturer...

You could call the manufacturer of the cable and ask them about the issue, or...

Simply remove that ugly plastic thing off the bike, secure the cable with black zip tie at the top, like was done on the bottom.

Thanks for your input, Dan!
I did not name a manufacturer on purpose. But, as a matter of fact, I bought it directly from the (presumable) most reputable one, and they were the ones giving me the feedback. The way the "feedback" came just seemed very weird and as if they were trying to dodge having to deal with it.

Aside from this, if I spend USD100+ on a clutch cable made for my very model bike, I expect it to fit perfectly.

Well then, it seems that is something you will need to take up with whoever made or sold you the cable...

I suspect that you would have been better served by a +2 cable

@Dan: I have taken it up with them, but they seem to think this is based on my mis-specification of the additional length. And I am trying to ascertain here that this cannot be the case, as the length between adjuster and the clutch should not be different whether I order +2", +4" or +100". I can see how with a "longer" cable, i.e. +4" vs +2", one could move the adjuster further down than it should be (as in my case), BUT this would necessarily result in more play towards the clutch. And this is not the case on my bike.
@eigheight: the above should answer your point too, I think the specified additional length should not have anything to do with where the adjuster sits.

Thanks, niv

I can`t see the point in all of this.
Zip tie the cable and get rid of the ugly plastic thing on the frame.
Move on.
Bye

Lucky you! I wonder if you‘d say the same if it was your money spent.
Might be just me, but paying full price for a premium product that ends up being a half-assed solution because I was sent the wrong item is definitely not how I like to go about things. And please note: so far this is just my unconfirmed assumption, no one was able to confirm or dispel it this far.
best, niv
