Shovelhead inner primary cover
I recently purchased 1982 FLH.Bike had bad oil leak transmision shaft seal appears to be culprit.I was putting on inner primary case when I tighten down unable to spin wheel,wheel spins free until tighten down ? Any ideas? Thnx

Your transmission and engine may not be aligned in the frame. I would see if you can find a procedure to handle the alignment. I'm guessing, but either the engine or the transmission is likely tightened in first while the other one is loose bolted such that it can float a bit. Snug up the chaincase, then torque the motor or transmission and then torque the chaincase.... something like that. Get the right info before proceeding if you can. The complication is rear wheel drive alignment, got to end up close enough to handle that. Hoping this helps.

Don`t tighten primary cover bolts while transmission is bolted tight, loosen the transmission bolts, it needs to be loose so that it will pull up to the inner primary cover.
You need to be working with a factory service manual to do this work, unless you really like buying inner primary covers.
