Default SE Comp rattle

I've got the latest SE comp in my 07 EGC. It probably have about 40000 miles on it. It's beginning to rattle some so I plan on trying the PEEK thrust washer from the M8s. It's about 0.020 thinner than the needle bearing and I'll check / adjust the sprocket spacing and add one of the 0.030:" spacers. I'm hoping the PEEK washer will provide a little more damping of the comp rattle.

Last time I assembled it I used 2 or the small Belleville springs cupped to control the rattle. It worked well for a while but think I might need a little more pressure. IIRC someone here said they used one of the second springs from an older SE comp in place of the small spring. Anyone doing this? BTW, Spokes and cam still look good.

40,000 miles, I'd say you got your moneys worth, I have similar noise from my SE Compensator , I don't feel comfortable messing around with thrust washers or spring rings so I just bought the new Compensator 42200064A for $254 from Big Sky Harley in Montana, free shipping no taxes Done Deal
I did see a youtube video about the thrust washers or spring rings your talking about.
Hope it helps

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the guy didn't run it.. For me the new comp knocked when I got it. It my case I used heavier springs. I am also looking into using a stock M8 comp as they seem to work fine. Ramps have changed on them besides going pack to the PEEK thrust washer (instead of needles). The motor is built up some so idle can be a little rough.

Found the second video. Unfortunately he is doing mods to the early SE comp. They really didn't rattle that bad until the lack of oil wore them out.

Here are some pics.

With the motor having over 100K on it. Runout is about 0.004" on this side. Original tensioner still looks good. Replacing the thrust bearing with PEEK washer out of an M8 I trimmed 0.020 off the engine to get the alignment back.
