Is this compensator toast? Its from a 94 dyna with ~55k mi, and a bad compensator spring. The service manual just says to replace it if worn, but doesnt publish wear limits. I would prefer to just replace the cap/spring pack if this will hold up, but it does look like its been scraping quite a bit
Probably not. Check the splines the cam runs on for wear. Look for cracked Belville springs in the cover. On the sliding cam, the tips will wear a step.. If it's significant, replace.
Other than what looks like gauling on the inner irng contact surface if the sprocket, I don't see anything that would worry me. But these ar epictures on the computer, so have a closer look using a magnifying glass as needed to ensure nothing is missed.
I wanted to post an update, the compensator was indeed, toast.
I havent measured it yet but it looks like nearly 1/8 difference, the peaks and the valleys were worn and the spring was partially collapsed, old one obviously on the right.
