I have heard a ton of stuff about new six speeds. Can someone set me straight.
If i need to make an extra shift on a bike to reach the same final drive ratio. Why in the name of ^%+ would I want to make an extra shift and spend my hard earned cash on it.
Am I out in left field or does this not make sense to anyone else?

I'm still trying to get used to a 5 speed after 20 years on a 3 speed!
Well, the SE 6 speed and the Baker OD6 both are basically just tranditional 5 speeds(ie: they have either equal or similiar gearing to the stock HD twin cam 5 speeds, both with 1:1 5th gear ratios)with a true engine reducing OD gear(in which the engine only turns a fraction of a full revolutions while the wheel turns a full revolution),some people find it beneficial. I set my primary gearing up a bit steeper to take advantage of 1-5th gears being used for maximum acceleration, and have 6th gear for relaxed cruising when off the throttle. 6 speed isnt for everybody, you have got to find the need or use for it.
The idead behind it, with a closer gear ratio each shift you keep the engine in its power band, not to critical with a cruiser or touring bike, this applies to the DD6's, the OD6 has the same first 5 gears as the 5 speed with an overdive 6th gear
