bdl starter problem fixed
for what its worth. 10 months ago a nearby shop installed a 3 inch bdl belt drive on my 1990 softail. right after it started the starter problem, jackshaft hitting the clutch backet gear and grinding, never did this with my old setup, stock. well the shop mech. told me thats normal, another local shop, which has a authrorized harley mech., said the same thing, normal. wnet on line and seems the problem is everywhere. well i figured that if this was a problem bdl should have been able to of fixed in the last 10 years. meanwhile i run into a local car, truck and harley mech. who says, thats not normal/ says my starter clutch is bad, wasnt bad before, didnt skip like a bad starter clutch, but he insisted that was it. so i bought one and after he installed it problem gone. seems the old was lagging on pushing the jackshaft out before it started spinning. kinda of like trying to changing gears in a car without using the clutch. anyway it fixed the problem, still cant believe it. ahhh life is good.

well hes not a backyard mech. worked at a local motorcyle shop and a few car dealers. hes also certified in airconditioning, R12. its just that he works on the side out of his garage. here, the shops dont want to completely fix your bike, or car, but keep you coming back, that want you to be an account. you know, well lets see, this guy is good for $1500.00 a year, that gal over there is good for $400.00 a year, and so on and so on.

What I meant was that he's not necessarily a trained expert in just one field, he has worked on many different things and has a broad background of knowledge that carries over to other fields which sometimes makes the best mechanics.

thats it. where i live hes a gold mine. a real mech. not a parts replacer. when your bike starts good, runs good and doesnt leak oil then life is good, well leaks oil just a little, after all life cant be perfect.
