Niagara Falls
Check out living social, huge daily deals, etc ... They always have great package that include hotel and meal credits. My wife and I use them for weekend getaways. They are always Canadian side lodging.
If you were to come up 219, check out ellictoville, great little town. Gin mill is a great little place to stop and eat. Very short ride from my house but one we make often.

You do NOT want to stay on the US side. It's ugly and boring, and nothing to do. LMAO! Yes, you do need a passport to cross.
Did a similar trip and ended up visiting the wine tour over on the Canadian side,, had a GOOD TIME!! When you cross into Canada and get to the Customs checkpoint in Canada be careful since the road is made to in a cage it elevates the cars driver side so it is easy to see in. For a bike you end up with a nice slope away from the check point so be careful,, have seen a few folks fall over.
Agree that the American side has nothing to offer but an empty casino.
Anchor Bar in Buffalo. We stopped there when at the falls last year. Famous as the place where the original buffalo wings started. Had lots of cool bikes up on the walls throughout. Actually the wings and beer were decent too.
We did the York tour, Gettysburg, and the PA grand canyon on the way up.
Finger Lakes region isn't too far away, few hours and has lots of scenery, wine tours, etc. Great place to spend a day or so.
Have a safe trip.

Hope you enjoy the trip. If you come over to "our" side (Canada) and you're into it - definitely do some of the wineries and the tours in Niagara-on-the-Lake (which is a pretty little place itself). Inniskillin, Peller Estates are a couple of the big ones, but Coyotes Run and Reif Estates are excellent too.
All the stuff is on the Canada side.
The US side really has nothing.
You need a passport or the new passport card.
If you are a tourist type of person and have extra time consider riding to Toronto about 1.5 hours away for just one night.
Toronto is like a very small Manhattan, New York and they have a neat downtown, a needle tower and a small castle.

Lots of commuters starting from around Grimbsy all the way to Toronto. If you're considering making the drive from Niagara to Toronto I would suggest doing it in the pm, especially the QEW. and from Toronto to Niagara the am and stay away any US or Canadian long weekend. Late at night is construction time and they area always doing that somewhere along that route.
