Another option is the Lincoln/Woodstock area. It is right at exit 32 on rt93 which is at the 100 mile marker so it is maybe 45 miles north of Laconia. There is nice riding from there north to Littleton or Mt Washington area or even into Canada (if you have your passport). You can ride the Kanc to North Conway also. Check out VRBO for private condos for rent.
Any one coming from Ohio area? The mascot is making its way there as I type and it would be great for the members meeting up at Bentley's to get to sign the mascot. I've been fortunate enough to have signed this one last year so I don't really want to be responsible for passing it along but it could be nice for some other members to get to see and sign this one.
I'm going - but I'm trying to figure out how to either rent a bike out there, or ship my bike round trip from Los Angeles.
So far, a 9 day rental with insurance is about $2000, so shipping my own bike seem like the cheaper way to go.
Anyone here in SoCal exploring a similar plan? Anyone have experience shipping cross country (round trip)?
I just listed it on uship, but I was hoping if I could find more people in the area wanting to do the same thing, we could get a better rate, or find someone with a smaller, private toy hauler.
Let me know your thoughts if interested or have ideas. Thanks!
Fuma, not sure where you are checking rental prices , but that seems a little steep for 9 days. Ive rented out west, down south and most i paid for a 10 day rental was 1100 with insurance[full coverage ]. Ive used both Harley dealers and Eagle riders and they are pretty comparable just depends on what model you're interested in. Manchester NH and Concord Nh have dealers which I believe both rent--maybe I,ll do some checking----the reason I rent when I,m 2000 -3000 miles away is because the cost of shipping my bike just doesn't cut it------I,ll do some checking------Rocker
Yep, about 1700 through HD's rental finder (using Seacoast HD) and $2190 through Eaglerider (all the bikes are $133/day, plus insurance - PLUS $45/day "Laconia surcharge", and some bullshit enviromental fee, just to be ********). That is, if they still even have anything available. And I defintely need insurance and the waiver, my insurance wont cover a bike rental.
Neither Manchester or Concord HD do rentals, I guess.
Check with Boston Harley. You could fly into Logan, and it's not far to that dealership from airport. They also own Seacoast and Rochester HD's. Another HD near an airport in Manchester NH, I believe they have rentals.
Law is shoulder height for apes. While a few years ago, members of our crew have been stopped. We place them in the middle of our pack now, when riding in the Weirs-Meridith area.
I could be at Bentley's on Saturday. Staying that week on ME/NH border. Sunday our crew moves into rentals at Weirs Beach. Usually at Spoke early evening and Tower Hill late night.
We are planning a ride over to Bentley's on Monday or Tuesday - weather dependent - with a return stop at Iron Tails in Sapleigh ME. 70 mi each way.
Much of our crew heads back Wednesday. So, open after that.
Was talking to a buddy who's an LE in NH this past weekend. He was telling me Laconia is pulling in a significant amount of LE details above and beyond what they normally do. He was telling me it's overtime bonanza for cops during bike week. Basically the town isn't taking any chance of a repeat of the biker brawl that happened at Twin Peaks. There will be good riding, lots of vendors and all that, but if you're looking for wild and crazy party time like the old days I think you'll be a little disappointing. Just an FYI

I haven't been to Laconia in 20 years, but even then, it was pretty tame. Back in the late 60s & early 70s, when Laconia didn't want the bikers in town because of the "riot" in 1965, the cops would arrest you for doing 1/2mph over the speed limit if you were in town. The fun place was out on the back road from Laconia to Concord. Of course, that's where the race track was, and there were just miles and miles of bikers camped out along both sides of the highway. Out behind the race track was really crazy. After a few years, Laconia eventually missed the cash the bikers brought in and welcomed them back, but it promoted the rally almost as a "family event". Nice riding up there. Roads are little rougher than down here in FL or at Sturgis, but its a beautiful area. Have fun. Ride safe!

Not 100% sure, but believe Iron Tails is closed Mon/Tues and open after 3 on other weekdays--A few of us will be at Bentleys Fri-Mon and doing Laconia a couple of the days[depending on weather]hope to meet up with other members over that stretch----Rocker
