It would be a fun trip, except too much Interstate on a motorcycle. Maybe ok for a car.

Very cool. I can tell you though, as a native Illinoisan, if you drive through and the one stop on your list was Lincoln's home, you missed about 20-30 better things to see, and that's coming from a big history/civil war buff. I suspect there are lots of similar stories for other states on this list. If you drive through IL and have time for only one thing it should be the Art Institute museum. One of the two or three finest collections of art anywhere.
