Default No IBA this year for me.

Hello

Was gonna do an IBA from Ft Mac to Horseshoe Bay. Plan was solid -- just gonna be pretty wet and cold tomorrow. I was gonna leave today, but Edmonton got 5" of snow.

Of course a polar vortex opens up when I make plans...

It will work tomorrow - I'm just staying on the road I guess...

First road trip!! Yay for that!!

At least the winter is ending

Why would you write off the whole year because of bad weather 1 day early in the season?

If you are on the road now, keep at it until you are forced to stop. Don't stop unless you actually hit the weather and are forced to stop.
If that happens:

Pick some Saturday, get up at 5:00 am and haul ***. Do a round trip and you will be in bed close to your normal time that night.

Best of luck!!

I rode through 1" of snow over the Obed Summit. I was a little tired and stayed in Valemount BC. I got going again once the temps climbed to +4ºC. Rode to Kamloops, then over the Duffy Lake Road. Got to Horseshoe Bay Ferry at 17:20. Ferry left at 17:00.

Maybe ride an IBA sometime, just not this time. I want to do a 1500 mi or maybe a border to border insanity...

Better luck next time.

The SS 1,000 is more a test of tenacity than anything else.
The BB 1,500 is just a hop skip and jump after the first 1,000.
Get your SS done, sleep for 6 hours, wake up and grab the final 500 miles.
You can stack the certificates and get 2 rides done in one shot.

If you want some helpful hints to make the ride go smoother and more efficient, send me a note.

Thanks Jonesee,

I did a SS 1000 last June, but May wasn't cooperating in Alberta this year...

Oh well. Like I say I'd like to shoot for the Border to Border ride -- Tijuana to White Rock is my plan. Hit the I-5 and keep on the throttle. Dunno if the extreme is doable -- I think it is 21 hr just riding. Thats three hours of breaks.

Very doable.
All interstate.
1,400 miles at 78 mph = 18 hours
11 fuel stops at 10 minutes =1hr 50 mins
Total travel time = 19 hrs 50 mins rounded to 20 hours.

That gives you 4 hours to clear customs at both borders and a break along the way if you feel the need.
(see how it sounds so easy...)

The Insanity with the round trip in 48 hours is tough. I would be grabbing 4 hours sleep at the turnaround
