Anyone have experience with the weather in these areas in mid-September?

Default Glacier & Banff in September

Depending on where you go in Glacier there could be some snow at higher elevations. The road closes in early October on the pass as it goes pretty high. In Banff you can expect warm days 60-70 but the nights are probably getting a little cool that time of year, you will definitely know when the sun goes down. Enjoy the trip if you go, beautiful area!!!!!

Hey Joe,
I was in Glacier last year mid September around the 13th and the weather was perfect. The Road to the Sun was open and there was no snow or any weather related problems. We then went south and hit Yellowstone and Beartooth Pass without any issues. This year was a different story. Same time of year Beartooth Pass got a winter storm and Glacier got some snow also so we had to divert south, we couldn't finish our trip taking the route that we wanted. The one thing I like about traveling in September is that there is less traffic and motels seem to be easier to get on the fly compared to summertime. I have not made to to Banff yet so I couldn't tell you about the weather. Have a great trip.
Here is a link to my ride report from last year if your interested

Weather in that area is iffy at best. Sunshine turns to rain, snow or ice very quickly.

The wind is a constant factor.

I was there a few years ago in a car on the 2nd week in September and they had about 4" of snow at the pass and the Going to the Sun rd. was closed through the pass the first day. They were able to open the road completely on our 2nd day. We talked to some locals and were told that the week before the weather was nice with temps. near 80'. We drove up to Banff after 3 days exploring Glacier with no problems or more snow. I would also recommend the Waterton area just across the border since you will be close. The longer past Labor Day you wait really increases the likelihood of snow/cold weather. We had planned to do our trip earlier but had to delay it because one of our party had to wait until the 2nd week in Sept.

Was there at the end of July this year. It snowed the night before we went over. It was gone by the time we got up there.

I live north of Glacier and south of Banff in the mountains. All of the previous information is good. It can snow at anytime of the year but likely won't in most of September. I will suggest that the second week of Sept is not good for a motorcycle in Banff, maybe better in Glacier. Around Labor Day is ok and last 2 weeks of Sept will also be good, although the nights will be cool and the mornings cold. (35 - 45 deg. F) and the mountains take a while to warm up in the morning. You'll want heated gear if you're hoping for early morning departures. Cheers, Peter
