You mention Taos but how about Red River on the north side of that great town?
Small town w/ some good restaurants and hotels. Pretty laid back and some great riding (my opinion) going west towards Farmington.
Nice open 2 lane roads and even in the Summer it can get pretty isolated in the park area.
When you're in Taos, ride through to Angel Fire and then through Cimarron Canyon to the little town of Cimarron. Not much to see there but there is a great old fashioned soda fountain if you want a good little hot fudge sundae snack before heading back through the canyon towards angel fire and Taos.
Do the Enchanted Circle. Taos to Red River to Angel Fire and back to Taos. Visit the Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire. Visit the Church in Rancho De Taos as well as the Kit Carson House museum. Also take a 15 mile side trip west of Taos on 64 to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
From Taos to Santa Fe do the "High Road To Taos". 518 to Penasco, Truchas, Chimayo. Beautiful ride and visit some of the little churches along the way, especially the one in Chimayo.
On your Salida to Boulder day go from Salida to Canyon City along the Arkansas River with a stop at Royal Gorge. Be sure to ride across the Royal Gorge Bridge.
Just before you get into Canyon City there is a little side road called Skyline Drive or something like that. It is well marked on the left as you go into Canyon City and makes a loop about 3 mile long right into Canyon City. Not for the faint of heart, but also not to be missed.
First day: Boulder to Colorado Springs...grab Hwy 115 and head to Penrose....skip over to Florence...south to Wetmore...west on Hwy 96 to McKenzie Junction...south on Hwy 165 to Bishops Castle...slide down to I-25 (Obies is a local BBQ at the intersection). From there head south on I-25 over Raton Pass and catch the highway SW to Cimarron, Angel Fire and into Taos.
Third day: Santa Fe...take the high road to Taos...up through the San Luis Valley...might want to stop and visit Stations of the Cross in San Luis, the 'Fort' at Fort Garland...head NW the Great Sand Dunes National Park. When finished there head north to Salida. Great rides...have fun.
