I got a job interview in Modesto on Monday & I'm trying to see whether I need to waste 4 times as much gas driving vs. riding, BUT, if deer are a major problem then I'll consider that factor too. I've driven I-5 in a car but it was mainly at night & I can't recall the brush (how high), whether they had any barriers, lots of roadkill, etc. I also rode the PCH on a motorcycle but don't see that as comparable to central CA riding. Any insight much appreciated. I've driven CA->MN & back & had a deer jump from 5 ft brush into my bike. Thankfully it was small & didn't do much damage and I stayed up. Any insight into these central CA interstates near fields & forests, and whether they are just as bad as others would be appreciated. I've also heard deer are especially present in heat when they're trying to escape mosquitos. The temps are lookin around 90-100 for sunday (riding there during day) & monday (heading back at night, 6pm-1am). Input of those with experience on this stretch of road would be of great value in deciding whether to drive or ride.
Thanks in advance.

I always thought deer were most active around dusk and early hours of darkness, and dawn.. Durring the hot parts of daytime they are bedded down making Bambi.
I've done that stretch of I-5 more times than I'd ever be able to remember, during all times of the day and night, in every part of the year. I don't remember seeing a single deer.
Now, you get up into Northern Cali, and you'll see 'em.
