We are in the midst of planning a 18 day trip starting from Columbus, Ohio and doing the northeast states.....can any of you suggest some must be ridden roads, i have the sightseeing locations but would like to add a few " must do routes" ....
Thanks
OH 800 south of I-70 at Hendrysburg is a nice road. Take it to Fly OH and hop the ferry over to Sistersville.
The Ferry hours are Thursday & Friday 6 A.M. ? 6 P.M., Saturday and Sunday 9 A.M. ? 6 P.M. Costs to ride the Ferry: Motorcycles $3.00
Make your way east and ride US 50 from Bridgeport to Winchester, VA which is nice
US 340 north to Frederick MD is good then pick up 15 from there thru Gettysburg and then on to Harrisburg (340/15 is a good 4 lane thru farm and mtns)
Just wait on Geerzer Glide to chime in. I took his advice when we traveled up that way a few years back. He was spot on. 18 days seem like a long time to spend a p there but you will be able to take your time for sure.
Just road RT 6 in Pa. That could be a good starting point from Ohio then head north up into NY and Watkins Glen FingerLakes. Up to Rt 28 on west side dacks and ride it across the park to VT Just road with Geezer Glider and he is very knowledgable.

Well....the route is....Columbus Ohio > niagara falls > toronto> montreal > upstate NY > Vermont > New Hampshire > maine > Mass (Boston)> rhode Island > Conn > NYCity > ( uurffff New Jersey > Delaware > Maryland > Washington DC > Columbus Ohio
Sightseeing already identified now looking at roads to get us there....
8 bikes/couples...
2013 we did Colorado> New Mexico>Arizona>Utah>Nevada
2014 we did S./N.Dakota>Wyoming>Montana>Idaho
We been travelling well together...we have rules....we abide by...each couple takes a section and there's no deviations from the plans. ( but we can advise before final plans are set )...... Hey it works....
I agree with Perry um. Geezr won't steer you wrong. He suggested a few roads when I lead 3 bikes across the upper part of PA and he never missed a beat. Stop at Larry's Sports Center just east of Coudersport, PA. Great place and even better people.
VT 100 all the way through VT. Kangamangus Highway. Mount Washington Auto Road. Don't miss the Mount Desert Island Loop and Cadillac Mountain. Long Island, Montauk Point. RI, Connecticut follow the coast. Maryland take the Cape May Ferry.

Haven't "chimed in" because your route didn't include the "must-ride" roads that I know in PA & central upstate NY. If anything changes, I'd be glad to suggest a few things.
The only thing other thing along your route that I can suggest (if you'll be close) is maybe the gondola ride up to the top of Mt. Washington, over near Lake Placid. There's a ferry into VT at Fort Ticonderoga, but it's maybe too far south if you were mapping everything out & crossing at Plattsburgh.
