I've got Towing and Roadside assistance as part of my Foremost insurance plan at a cost of $10, which also pays for hotel rooms, meals and such while your stuck wherever, and back it up with the included towing and roadside from my AMA membership. I've never needed either yet and knock on wood that run will continue!
I'd check with your insurance co first to see what they offer, that's usually the cheapest.
RV Plus is great until you need to use it. I had a flat once and "There was nobody who could tow a motorcycle in the area." Hit a deer another time and "We have someone who can be there in 1.5 hours"
I also forgot to add when I had HOG it took 3 hours to get a truck out to Lodi. Then I can't remember how long to get to the dealer in Lodi. (The driver needed to go make a few stops on the way)
I've found that with roadside assistance, it's best to call your own tow and send in for reimbursement. If you let them arrange the tow you can guarantee that they will call the shop that is the farthest from your location.
Check to see who contracts the towing. My insurance contracts through a 3rd party and they suck. Those idiots actually expected me to leave my bike sitting outside a dealership on a Sunday night. Yeah right, that's going to happen.
W have road service through our motorcycle insurance company, we're both Lifetime HOG members, and we both have AAA-RV Plus.
However, I still carry a good variety of tools, a tire plug kit, a mini-air compressor, a siphon hose, and I never leave home without a major credit car, my cell phone, and some extra cash.
I've done some riding in some pretty desolate areas and sometimes cell phones don't work but ca$h will get me some help if I need it!
sounds like most of you like the AAA rv plan. Do you happen to know about how much what it costs? It doesn't show the RV plan on the web site.
I talked to my allstate office. The lady I talked to didn't know they had anything like that, but found that they had an RV package that also included Motorcycles, and all insured cars. It is $99/yr but only covers $100/tow but also includes $1500 trip interruption. She didn't know anymore about it and gave me another number to call. (I haven't called yet)
I think the biggest thing that i'm after is just having one number that I can call that will send a tow truck for me. I don't like the idea of being stuck on some country road and trying to find someone (on my cell phone) in the area that can tow me in.
I'm currently working 3rd shift, and it seems like i'm sleeping while everyone that I need to call is working. At least I still have time before the snow melts to get this figured out.
Thanks for the advice and opinions.
