Default March - Fly N Ride [LVNV]

Hi,

I've got the tickets booked, I've got the rental planned. Here in Alberta we are definately stuck in the middle of winter, and will be for a while. Flying March 23, rental begins March 24.

I've got most of the route planned:https://*******/maps/bwcHn2TKhZJ2

But I started looking at historical weather data, and am rethinking Reno. I don't mind some cooler temperatures, but it will be a rental - without heated grips etc, and riding through the snow is not so desireable.

I want to include Bixby Bridge and Highway 58 [the lost highway]. I thought the Rock Store would be cool too. I don't want to just kick around on interstates. I am also using the HD Ride planner, and using the avoid highways section.

Maybe checkout the Salton Sea & Laughlin.

Any help is apreciated

Harry

Out of Vegas before Parhump take Tecopa Rd nicer and sorta follows Old Spanish Trail. When you traverse from Death Valley to Panimint Valley if you have time drop down Panamint Valley Rd to Ballarat Ghost town cool to see. Stop in Panimint Springs Resort could even spend the night in the hotel if need. 395 is nice I would drop down around Lake Taho and take 50 acrossto Sac. I have not been on PCH since 1970. Not sure why you are dropping so far south 58 across to 15 nicer IMO. if there is something to see on that little spur you can come up the 14 to Pear Blossom Hwy across to 15.
Keep Water with you more than one little bottle and drink each time you stop, buy one at the store. Have fun how many days and how many miles per day may I ask.

Not rider friendly in January. (Ha ha) lucky to ride by April 15.

Wishing you the best on your trip. Never been up that way you'll be heading for. Weather's unpredictable at that timeframe. Rented Ultra from LVHD way back April '10 heading for Laughlin Bike Week. We got slapped with serious windy weather and snowstorm for 3 days heading into Central Arizona (Mingus and Prescott Mountains).

On our way back to LV from Flagstaff, Weather gradually improved from 20 degrees to 80 degrees. Got our rental real dirty and we laughed hilariously at the LVHD rental people when they inspected the bike over. They thought we were friggin' nuts, but once they found out that we're from Rochester, NY as we could tolerate the snowy weather. Great memories we had together. Hope we do not have to encounter that type of riding ever again.

Have a safe trip,

Thorey

Hey Thorey,

Sounds a lot like my ride last May. Hit snow on the yellow head highway just east of Hinton AB. Could have stood on the side of the road like an ******* or just press on. Chose the latter. Was dry come Hinton. Developed an exhaust leak which upon closer inspection was a warn joint on the supertrapp muffler to the 2:1 header. Had to ditch the black for Chrome as well. 😉

Anyhow fun times. The weather adds to the adventure on a motorcycle. In a vehicle you'd turn on the wipers. I know it's stupid and being tough for nothing -- but that adds to it.

Anyhow I'll keep looking at the reports. I mean with the Canadian dollar so low (and threatening to go lower) I might have to get my money's worth. Ha ha.

But there has been a strange warming trend here - it's plus 5 C today. And slippery as all get out. Maybe spring is coming...

Come on March.

Well we're getting down to the short strokes.

Three more workdays to go. And a motorcycle engine rebuild to complete...

But that said - pretty solid plan. LVNV to Death Valley. Ballrat ?? just for ***** n giggles as per MrZip66.

Lake Isabella to Bakersfield. The north loop out of Lake Isabella had "carry chains" indications on the CalTrans website.

Up to Folsom -- for the T-shirt and the Johnny Cash reference.
-End day ride one-

Over to Port Reyes?
Cross the Golden Gate
Fight through SF post rush hour.
Pacifica
Some looooooooooooooong tunnel south of Pacifica. [Right turn, and take bypass and run it again. It's a rental and this may be the only fun exhaust run to do!
Carmel - See if Dirty Harry is home [kidding]
Bixby Bridge and Big Sur.
San Luis Obispo
-Start looking for hotel / end ride day two-
Pismo Beach and get some sand in the tires.
Malibu
Rock Store on Mulholland
Ricks Cafe
Laughlin
-End Ride Day three-
Oatman
Kingman
Jerome
Sedona
Grand Canyon
Seligman [66 loop]
Kingman
Hoover Dam by way of Kingman wash access road
Return to LVHD
-End Day four - Longest day. But this should postpone the winterblues until the 124 come outta hiding for full breakin.

Flamingo fist night [no ride, just fly]
Cromwell last night [after motorcycles returned]

Should be awesome.

Hi Rocker.

Totally hear you but it's been a looooooooooooong winter. So this is intended to ride the **** out of some rentals.

South of SF along the coast is new. Most others is old. So -- were gonna kick *** and take no names. Also turn off location services.

But the coast is my big push. And I've been through Laughlin not stayed there.

Have a good one.
