We've been out that way several times (3 times on bikes, once in convertible) and our favorite was in early September.
Very cool in the mountains in the evening/morning hours but usually nice riding temps during the day.

Lived in Utah and have been to every part in every season. Don't do it in August! You will experience 100 degree and/or flash floods. Nevada is too hot in August. Stay North on your ride and have fun.

Thanks for the memories! Wifey and I rode that one a few years ago and won't soon forget it.
I showed her your photos and she shouted "Hat!!" They were working on it and there was a lot of pea gravel..I remember loyally honking my horn as we approached sone of those turns, hoping to avoid getting clocked by oncoming traffic.....
Great photos.....

Grandslam, I'm sorry that I was distracted by Deucedogs photos they brought back scary times. As a sideways answer to your original question yeah, MV will be HOT. But I would rather ride there, in say 110 degree heat, than Mississippi in 95 degree heat and 95 % humidity.

I really like riding the Trace but that's world class sweaty hot.

Thanks for all the replies. I have not figured out what to do yet. I really want to see the area.

Buzzard, I will be in VA next week. I have been working there some the last four years. Beautiful country. And I have been just about all over it.

Grandslam, While in Virginia try to stop at a state welcome station. Pick up "A map of Scenic Roads in Virginia" You may have to ask for it at the desk. It's NOT the state road map. Anyone reading this and travelling to or through Virginia pick this up.

Follow any green or dark green road, they are great motorcycling roads.

Did it last year in July without any issues and I'm from the great white north. On the road early with frequent stops. Unless I'm missing something I don't see how it would be different from August.

Thanks Lude a tick.

Buzzard, I have had a couple of the maps. Like I said, I have been all over. Both on my own, and I ride with the HOG group from Colonial Heights.

I went in August - but it was by car. One thing we did, that you might enjoy if you really want to see the park, is we hired a jeep, I think the company is called Sacred Monument Tours, anyway, our Navajo guide grew up there and we had a great afternoon riding where cars can't go. You may want to check out the tours. They are right there in the visitors center.

One last thing that has not been mentioned. I've been through the loop road on the Valley floor a few times. One year it's safe for a Dresser or Wing and another year or month you would need a dirt bike with knobbies to get across the blown sand washes that can cross the road. You don't really know ahead of time and can't tell from the overlook.

If on a bike you would be well advised to follow traffic jam's post and hire the jeep and driver. He will also take you into restricted areas off limits on the standard loop.
