Big wave....Yes they are on my list. Would we be able to spend a day or the better part of the day at Mesa Verde? Just wondering if this place can be a stopover from one town to the next? Thanks for your input.
You could easily spend a day there. On my trips it seems it's always been on the way up from Arizona on the way to Colorado Springs, overnight in Durango, so it was in the afternoon. It's a great site for anyone interested in Native American architecture (Pueblo, Anastazi)
The wife and I road this area in 2012 and the most memorable stop on our adventure was Taos Pueblo in NM. If you have time, don't miss this. Take the tour and pay the 5 bucks for the privilege of taking pictures.
Definitely take the tour...very enlightening.
This is a great village with an incredibly long history. Overall the area near Taos has some incredible scenery.
The PROBLEM with coming to Colorado is that you miss out on northern New Mexico and southern Utah! You could easily create a two-week itinerary and see all the places you need to see in Colorado and northern New Mexico but you'll have to come back to do southern Utah another time. If you plan it right you should visit Colorado in late September and head over to southern Utah the first week of October. Lot less traffic...kids are in school...and hotel prices should be a better bargain.
