Weather is the best around Aug thru Sept, hotels can be had if you book ahead of time. If you share the route you are thinking about I can give more info.

Great weather that time of year, lots of sun and warm-hot temps. What is your route? I have a small apartment and full shop for maintenance. would be interesting meeting someone from down under. But then I might be on the trail myself that time of year, Sturgis you know.

Did Washington and Oregon from Canada last two summers. We were able to do both trips with out any 4-lane or even coming within sight of a major city; stunning backroads and interesting locals all the way...
We would book ahead the night before; I found that not all accommodation in smaller centres is on the cliche sites (trip advisor) and found some on a goggle search of the town itself (ie Republic WA)

Default Help with info on Washington needed here as well.

I have been looking at a trip from Nebraska to Washington State and back as well. Any information would be helpful especially on lodging and food stops. Planned start date is Aug 5 Nebraska to Sheridan Wy via Hwy 83 to Hwy 20 in Nebraska to hwy's 18 and 16 tru South Dakota then Hwy 14 into Sheridan Wy. Next day 14a to Hwy 310 into Red Lodge. Then the Beartooth and Yellowstone roads to Jackson Wy. Then Hwy 22 out of Jackson into Idaho working way to Hwy 93 into Missoula Mt. Then Hwy 200 into Idaho to Hwy 2 into Washington to Hwy 20 to Coleville Wa. Then Hwy 20 to Winthrope Wa Next day ride 20 to Rockport swing south on Hwy 530 working my way to Hwy 2 west to Cashmere Wa. Then Hwy 97 south working toward Rainer staying overnight in Packwood. Then working south through the Gifford Pinchot Nat. Forest on forest roads to Carson and west on Hwy 14 to Hood River for the Night. Then to Kennewick on 14 to 82 for the night. Leaving Washington on Hwy 12 to Hwy 11 in Oregon to Hwy 204 working my way to Joseph and south thru Hells Canyon crossing to Idaho and stopping in McCall Id for the night.

Lodging and food info would help. Also open to suggested route changes. Thanks in advance. Flatlander74

That looks liked a great trip a couple of other options instead of HWY 12 White pass into Packwood in Yakima take HWY 410 Chinook Pass into Mt Rainer NP then south into Oregon its a much better ride then White pass
Also when heading towards Washington just before you get to Missoula MT take HWY 12 west over Lolo Pass into Lewiston ID and Clarkston WA it's one of my favorite rides a must do if you are coming that way

I would agree with skydrifter. Although highway 200 is a great ride I would recommend 12 out of Lolo, Montana. Lolo pass is one of the better rides in Idaho. Then you could just go north on Hwy 95 to Sandpoint and continue as you already planned.

My response is aimed at Flatlander.

Check for festivals or events in areas you are going through. Lavenderfest on the olympic peninsula one year killed us..... had to double back more than an hour to find a room
