I have tent camped at some of the KOA's. Nice sites, showers and a lot of them serve meals. All of the meals that I have tried were real good. Breakfast and supper.

Right about the price. I tent camped one night at East Glacier. It was 30 something dollars. The next couple of nights I had a cabin in West Glacier for $40.

KOA can get $$. Some local campground folks are often cheaper...some leave a bit to be desired tho?? Many are great... do some trip advisor hunting.

we rolled into a campground one evening, Alpine Tx I think after a few days in Big Bend. We unpacked, my bud started putting up the tent. I got the stuff out to warm our meal. We only opened cans, not real cooking. The lady in the rv next to us came over, said, oh no, took my cans inside her bus and returned with our food in bowls all heated in her microwave. And she had breakfast and coffee in the morning. You meet great folks in campgrounds.

Thanks for the tips guys. Some of the prices ARE crazy...just looked at a place, nice looking, but how the h*** do you charge $55 for an RV, with electric and cable, and $37 for a tent site? BS

Most State Parks have "primitive" camping with restrooms and showers not to far. They tend to be much cheaper than most. You shouldn't have to pay more than ten dollars to just pitch a tent.

So for anyone interested in getting into bike camping but doesn't have the equipment yet, I would highly recommend looking at equipment from REI. https://www.rei.com/. They have a lot of equipment designed for backpackers and car campers, tents, sleeping bags, camp stools, cooking gear, etc. They are light weight and sturdy. And my experience is they are the least expensive of the quality equipment providers. I used them for most of my backpacking gear when I was into backpacking. I would consider them first if I wanted to pick up equipment for bike camping.

I usually look for KOA, especially if I am on a long trip and don't know the area very well. You can usually bet that the KOAs are pretty nice and well maintained. I have stayed at some places that are not... It all depends on what kind of trip I am on though. sometimes it's just nice to get out and get away from everything. Of course, that's a little harder to do on the Road King! :-)

I ride and tent camp a lot cross country. There are a lot more campsites out there than what are listed on these apps. I use them and also just fly by the seat of my pants. I ask the attendants at gas stops as I get closer to my stop for the day, they are very helpful. Smaller towns will have parks that can be real pleasant as well. In CO you will have no problem finding places.
